CalmSpace Update: Themes and Audio Progress

This week felt like a shift from purely functional work into shaping how CalmSpace actually feels.

The core system is still the priority, but the app is starting to look more intentional.

Introducing Themes and Visual Changes

One of the main updates this week was adding themes and refining the visual style.

I made adjustments to fonts and began experimenting with different color schemes. The goal is to move away from a generic development look and toward something that reflects the purpose of CalmSpace.

Since this is an app meant for sleep and relaxation, the interface needs to feel calm the moment it opens. That means softer visuals, cleaner layouts, and fewer distractions.

This is still early, but it is a step toward a more complete experience.

Backend Responsibility Shift

Backend work has been handed off to Nate.

This allows me to stay focused on core functionality and user experience, while backend systems like profiles and data handling are developed in parallel.

Splitting responsibilities like this should help the project move faster and stay more organized.

Working on the New Audio Player

This week I worked with Sora on integrating the masking system with a new audio player.

This is still in progress.

Right now, the focus is on making sure:

  • The masking system works correctly with the new player
  • Generated noise behaves consistently
  • Audio playback remains smooth

This has been one of the more challenging parts of the project so far. Combining real-time microphone input with generated audio inside a new playback system introduces a lot of edge cases.

It is not finished yet, but progress is being made.

Still Focused on Masking

Even with UI improvements and collaboration happening, the main priority has not changed.

Masking still needs to work extremely well.

Everything else, including themes, profiles, and backend systems, only matters if the core experience is solid. Most of the effort is still going toward improving reliability, consistency, and performance.

Where CalmSpace Stands

At this point CalmSpace:

  • Supports multiple visual themes and improved typography
  • Uses adaptive masking driven by the phone microphone
  • Is being integrated with a new audio player
  • Has backend development handled by a teammate
  • Continues to improve through collaboration

The app is starting to move beyond just functionality.

Now it is about making it feel right.

And that is a different kind of challenge.
