CalmSpace Update: User Testing Results and Next Steps

This week was honestly hard to get a lot done. My other class has me writing a lot of papers and reading a ton of references, so it’s been really draining and has taken up most of my time. Because of that, I was not able to complete as much as I wanted for CalmSpace.

The main thing I did get done was going through my user test results and putting together a plan for the next few weeks. For my user test, I had my wife go through the app and give feedback on the main screens and tasks. Overall, the feedback was pretty good. She said the app was easy to understand, simple to use, and not overwhelming, which made me feel like the layout and navigation are working well.

One of the main things that came up was the sound options. She mentioned wanting more sounds similar to indoor rain, so that seems like one of the clearest improvements to focus on. I also noticed that the masking felt different depending on the audio setup, like using headphones versus other sound setups. That was not really a UI problem, but it did show me that I need to pay more attention to how the app works in different listening situations.

Another thing I learned was that the sleep questionnaire needs to feel more meaningful. She filled it out, but she was not really sure how it connected to the app or why it mattered. That told me I need to explain its purpose better or make it more clear how it affects the user experience.

For the next few weeks, my plan is to focus on small improvements instead of trying to redesign everything. Since the app already tested well overall, I want to keep the layout mostly the same and just improve the areas that need more clarity. My main focus will be helping make any new sound options fit cleanly into the UI and making the sleep questionnaire easier to understand.
